GE Sensing Announces Low-Cost Telaire Safeaire® Plus IR Sensor
Modules for CO2 Measurement and Detection
Goleta, Calif. – August 2, 2007
GE Sensing announces the release of a new generation of low-cost CO2 sensor modules targeting residential and industrial applications. The Safeaire® Plus T6603-3 / T6603-5 CO2 sensor modules offer accuracy and versatility at an affordable price. This product line remains accurate over the expected life of the device utilizing Telaire’s patented ABC (Automatic Background Calibration) Logic™ technology. The Safeaire® Plus is a pre-calibrated infrared
CO2 sensing platform that is produced to exacting standards utilizing GE’s high-volume manufacturing facilities.
“The Safeaire® Plus T6603 series is ideal for OEM customers who desire a scalable CO2 sensing solution at an affordable price,” said Dave Michels, Global Product Manager for Telaire, GE Sensing.
The technology is based on the absorption of light in a gold-plated reflective light pipe or waveguide diffusion gas chamber. A gas permeable Teflon filter prevents particulate and water contamination of the sensor. Light is absorbed in proportion to the CO2 concentration and the remaining light is measured and converted into an analog signal.
Telaire’s ABC Logic™ software ensures a self-correction of drift to better than ±20 ppm per year. The system is virtually free of maintenance and typically has a lifetime of more than 10 years.
The Safeaire® Plus is a low-cost CO2 module designed to meet the volume and delivery expectations of Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM). The product line can be utilized in a broad range of health, safety and comfort applications, including air quality monitoring, automotive refrigerant and commercial appliance safety. The Telaire T6603 series features a three and five pin configuration, low power consumption, and three software selectable outputs including UART, PWM or On / Off (threshold sensor) modes.
