GE Awarded First MCERTS Product Conformity Certificate for Closed Pipe Flowmeter

Leicester, UK, October 14, 2005—GE Sensing, a leading provider of precision sensing products, systems and services, announced today the award of the first Environment Agency MCERTS Product Conformity certificate for a closed pipe flowmeter under the Continuous Water Monitoring scheme. Generally Class 1 certified, The Panametrics DF868 clamp-on Flowmeter helps water authorities and other businesses comply with the EU’s Integrated Pollution Prevention Control (IPPC) regulations.

The DF868 uses non-invasive ultrasonic transducers that clamp-on to the outside of existing pipes, avoiding costly process disruption and downtime for installation. Providing flow rate and integrated daily volume of final discharge water, hundreds of DF868s are already deployed across the UK on abstraction, raw sewage and final discharge applications and the intensive evaluation for MCERTS approval included pipes of varying material, from 50mm to 1200mm in diameter.

The DF868 is simply retrofitted to existing pipes where there is no existing flow meter, or it can be installed to replace a failed in-line meter, without any process shutdown. With a 400:1 turndown, the DF868 is readily sized to a wide range of pipes, unlike conventional meter technologies where ratios of 20:1 or even 10:1 are encountered. Whilst a closed and full pipe is typically required, numerous partial full discharge pipes have been simply yet successfully modified for DF868 installation.

In addition to minimal installation cost, the rugged DF868 is rated IP66 and requires no routine maintenance. All stainless steel pipe fittings, complete submersibility of the clamp-on transducers and permanent acoustic couplant ensure longevity of service. The easy-to-use graphical display has a simple menu driven keypad with full choice of flow units for display and output functions. A comprehensive diagnostics function enables ongoing meter health-checks, either locally or remotely.

The DF868 is a Panametrics product. Panametrics has joined other GE high-technology sensing businesses under a new name—GE Sensing.
